River Raiden

Activision's top-down shooter for the Atari 2600, released in 1982 and designed by Carol Shaw, remains one of the best games for that console. You swerve left and right, shooting down choppers, balloons, and tankers. Your fuel supply requires constant attention, forcing you to choose sometimes between easy kills and zooming to a fueling station. The game generates miles upon miles of non-repeating river and filled with enemies. The player can shift side to side and change the speed of the plane. Sections of the river are marked by bridges.

Galaga

Released by Namco in 1981 Galaga is a space ship shooting game. Galaga is similar to Galaxian because it’s a sequel. The player controls a spaceship and shoots at groups of alien ships above that occasionally attack. This is an one to two player game that gives you three lives to defeat the game. At the beginning of each stage, the area is empty, but over time, enemy aliens fly in formation, and once all of the enemies arrive on screen, they will come down at the player's ship in formations of one or more and may either shoot it or collide with it. During the entire stage, the player may fire upon the enemies, and once all enemies are vanquished, the player moves onto the next stage. You can also gain a man every 10,000, 100,000 and 1,000,000 points.
